Does anyone know if vaping sets off smoke detectors?
I would test this myself except that my smoke detector has been permanently disabled for going off too many times over toast.

There is 2 main types of detectors. 1 is kinda visual, vaping will set those off. The other is more like smell, and those are fine with vapes, but more expensive

It will differ from smoke alarm types possibly and VG/PG ratio definitely, but my 65VG set mine off very easily if I'm not careful. Most annoying at 3am

Smoke detectors dont detect smoke they detect FUN. Cause no matter what your doing from having a shower, to boiling the jug once that thing makes a sound your day is ruined.

Hey Debz! I think the short answer is "it depends". Mostly on the type, and/or sensitivity of the detector itself, but also on how much vapour you're throwing out. I've never set mine off at home for example, and that's chain vaping, blowing middle sized clouds, in a tiny unit that's very poorly ventilated. If memory serves however, others here have had problems with different detectors in much larger spaces than mine, so it's difficult to guess how yours might respond. As I understand it, there are three main types of smoke detectors (technically two, the third type uses a combination of the others), and each work quite differently. Due to how they operate, the type you have can make a big difference as to whether your vape is detected or not. Here's a quick overview article if you're keen to know more. Ignore the sales talk, and the info is useful enough for our purposes I think: www.reviews.org/safety/best-smoke-detectors/Other than that, it will come down to your specific vape gear/juice, and the build quality/sensitivity of the detector unit installed. For the latter, as in, "does it do what it claims in the box?"; Some do, and others inevitably don't. Not sure if that helps much? Edit: I type waaaaay too slow. 😂

Thanks everyone. It looks like that is a big > NO < to a sneaky low-smoke low-watt no-flavour vape in the loo of a public building and another big > NO < to reinstating the home smoke detector over summer when heatwaves could necessitate some indoor vaping.

Can your sneaky escape to a public building toilet evolve into a sneaky escape outdoors somehow instead?
