I've been vaping for almost 8 years and decided recently to reduce my dose.
I started on 36mg -> 24mg ->12mg in the first 6 months or so and stayed @12mg until a few months ago when I dropped down to 6mg (basically because I have never enjoyed vaping anywhere near as much as smoking - it keeps the wolves from the door but on balance I am a less is more kind of person and would rather do nothing).
Vaping is even more boring than I thought possible @ 6mg but still doable. I am getting an overall higher daily dose because, being the efficient little nicotine titration munchkins that we are I have just adjusted to the status quo plus a bit extra as penalty for vaping what seems like thin air. So I tried a batch at 12mg and after only a few minutes had the classic OD symptoms - it didn't come with any buzz either so bugger that for a lark but also bugger using up twice the batteries/recoils etc.!
I am now considering forgetting the whole idea and slowly going back up again but before I do my question to those that have successfully weaned down/off nicotine is how long did it take ? Any tips ? How long is a piece of string ?
Hey Foo-ey I pretty much vaped a minimum of 24mg ( sometimes 36) for years and thought I would never be able to do less ... then a few years back I decided to try . Dropped to 18mg for a few months and yep I noticed it , I was vaping more in mls per day ... but after a few weeks it steadied pretty much and I thought ok lets try 12 .. same sorta experience initial uptake of more mls per day , which then tapered back ... This went on for a while and now I am sitting here on 2mg liquid , and vaping about 12mls on a heavy day and 8mls on days where I am distracted/ forget to vape ..
Technically I suppose I could try going to 0 nic , but I am still there with this safety net in my mind .... I still relish the hand to mouth and inhale process but I am not HANGING for a vape so much these days ( like every minute LOL) ...
I really think that for me anyway , the process is a little repeat of the initial struggle to switch to vaping each time you do . It seems to me , for me anyway, its a bit like giving up bit by bit and it needed the mental decision to make it succesful ( like when you switched out from smoking , but nowhere near as bad )
I think you need to find your own way down if you want to lower , you could try dropping a mg per week and glide in ... or as I did , bigger steps , but not so big that you HAVE to go back up , if that makes sense?
Pretty much seconding all of the thoughts and observations above here mate.
For sake of reference, I started on 24mg/ml, and have been down as low as 2mg/ml for extended periods, though sitting around 6-9mg/ml more recently.
Despite numerous dosage changes over the last five years, both upwards and downwards, my overall intake has continually (though also very gradually) reduced. For the most part, I attribute this to being as flexible with my cravings as I can manage.
Others may well be different, but I've noticed that the types of cravings I get have changed frequently since I started vaping. Sometimes I've wanted that high dosage hit to feel satisfied, other periods a slow burn has been far more ideal, with plenty of alternatives in between. In short, I've found that for me, managing my intake is more about my dosage being "in tune" with my immediate cravings than anything else.
As such, I tend to view the mg/ml as a mechanism, or a tool in the process, rather than the end goal. By this I mean that if you're vaping 10ml per day of 24mg, it's still effectively the same total as 80ml at 3mg, just a different delivery choice.
Your cravings may not switch around as much as my own (or maybe they do?), but I've found that it helps to stay on top of whatever your body is asking for in that regard, and give it just that little bit less. If that makes any sense?
I vaped 12mg for 5 years but sometimes my lungs felt a little heavy so I dropped to 6mg. Took about a week to get used to it, I used harsher Tobacco flavor to substitute.
After a week of 6mg everything went back to normal. So that's 4 years on 6mg and I have no plans of dropping any further because I can't get over niced even if I try and besides without Nic juices taste like flavored stream to me.
Worthy of mention is that I've also halved the flavoring as well about 3 years ego and never had a vaper's tongue since. I used to buy 12mg juice and dilute it 50/50 but now I just make my own and mix about 1% of flavoring. I do use Kayfun thought so all the flavor is there and using full strength juices just seems to much now.
I forgot to put 500mL of 4mg in there sometime after 500mL of 5mg was finished - it seemed to go pretty fast but there is only about 120mL of 4mg left after which I feel very comfortable dropping to 3mg.
It seems to be getting easier each time even though these jumps are getting bigger in percentage terms and I am choofing more.
Just posting as a log because I am curious about what I am actually getting through for freezer ordering purposes.
