Spent a fortnight touring Tasmania property hunting in our Jayco Pop Top Caravan. Toured the West Coast Zeehan, Tulla and Roseberry, yeah properties were cheap enough but the houses and location had nothing going for it. Moved on to North Coast and stayed at Penguin Caravan park (Picture) that was nice. No free wifi but, never mind had our own portable 4g Modem. (Optus) and that worked well. Telstra 4G was hopeless. Toured all up and down the North Coast from Launceston to Smithton and finally purchased a house in Smithton Tas. On the far NW coast very impressed with the town as it has all amenities including hospital, Woolies supermarket and heaps more. This is the property we bought. $150K Now we are staying with friends waiting for the legal stuff to be finished.

Glad you found somewhere you like, in a place you like.
The house looks good, and the price is very nice - a comparable property in Ireland would be around 200,000 Euros ... crazy prices here in Ireland.

Not too far from an airport either! Well done. Jealous as I just booked my next trip there just this morning. Check Deloraine bakery out at some point. Same side as the Empire hotel but up the hill a bit, scallop pies mmmmmmmmmm! Worth it.

Don't worry house prices here are also going through the roof especially on the Australian Mainland and Suburbia. One wonders when the over inflated real estate bubble will burst. The interesting thing about Tasmania is that people from the Australian mainland come here with the view of cheaper properties and spend one winter here and cannot wait to go back to the mainland. PMSL Woosies.

Fatman has already worked out how to put pontoons and engine on when he nicks your van Bluedolphin! LOL well, the last night we stayed at Penguin Caravan Park located on the beach at Penguin Tas. We had wind gusts up to 90-100kmh. Dunno about pontoons but massive concrete blocks would have been good. I am truly amazed at some people. Severe weather warning were issued and every one rolled up their awnings and we even dropped the pop top. One dude did not bother saying that his rope stays would hold his awaning. Ahem it was ripped to shreds. We did not hang around and the next day with a break in the weather headed south as there was more adverse weather coming. @docm and Fatman , Yeah the pontoon idea would be interesting however I think the centre of gravity of the caravan would not make it a very stable house boat. Thanks for the idea we might investigate it further.

Pumping up the tyres to the max may compensate for the displacement BD, FM will 'pencil in' the waterline later on after he gets back from kite flying. I think he made it to Mawson Station.......
